Our last Navigator Committee Meeting, was very productive, with a wonderful discussion on the ACA’s “no-wrong-door policy,” resulting in best practices suggestions, such as the concept of a “soft-transition” between benefits service providers, if needed (e.g. Navigator calls and makes an appointment to have client speak to someone who can assist with TANF application, instead of providing client with a phone number and sending client on his or her way). The group also discussed the Promotora program and DOH’s use of iReach software to access information and apply for multiple benefits sources through one portal.
Given the changing and shifting landscape of the future of New Mexico’s Exchange, our agenda will be devoted to a legislative update on the Exchange and Navigator program, and formulating a response to different potential legislative and agency actions. I will also report back on meetings and discussions of the Program Integration, Exchange Task Force Working Group’s discussion on the Navigator Program.

As an out-growth of the Health Care For All Coalition, we have organized the Consumer-Interest Navigator Committee Meeting to brainstorm consumer-supportive policies, lists of possible programs with Navigator capacity, and advocacy points to assist the state in developing the best consumer-friendly Navigator system for New Mexicans. If you think of other individuals who should be a part of this discussion, please let me know.
